Furniture/Today's special bedding issue highlights three retail giants of bedding. The 2012 winners of this award are Portland-based BedMart, Coon Rapids, Minn.-based HOM Furniture and Houston-based Gallery Furniture. While a majority of consumers currently own an innerspring sleep set, consumer satisfaction levels are much higher with specialty sleep sets. Those insights come from a Furniture/Today and Apartment Therapy Bedding Survey that offers a snapshot of bedding opinions held by consumers across the country. The two companies teamed up to take the pulse of consumers on a variety of mattress topics.
Furniture Today's 2013 Bedding Forecast . The mattress industry will record a 4% gain in unit shipments this year, while the wholesale value of those shipments will jump by 6.8%. The Furniture/Today forecast is more bullish than the industry forecast issued in October by the International Sleep Products Assn. The ISPA forecast, issued by that group’s statistics committee, calls for 2.3% unit growth this year and 6.3% dollar growth.
Bedding Yearbook - 2012 . Our annual Bedding Yearbook provides a compilation of key mattress reports we publish each year. On the producer side, we list the Top 15 Bedding Producers (reprinted from an earlier issue), a closely watched list that tells retailers which manufacturers are moving up and which ones are moving down. This year's ranking features a new name in the No. 1 position, Serta.
Furniture Today's Top 25 Bedding Retailers 2012 . Mattress specialist Sleepy's retains its No. 1 ranking atop Furniture/Today's list of the Top 25 U.S. Bedding Retailers, with estimated bedding sales last year of $800 million. But fast-charging Mattress Firm, the publicly held Houston-based mattress retailer, is not far behind, with estimated bedding sales last year of $758.5 million. No. 2 Mattress Firm was the fastest-growing bedding retailer last year in terms of percentage growth, with a 39.5% gain. And it also had more dollar growth last year than any other bedding major, adding $214.9 million in bedding sales. In addition, it added 181 stores last year, many from its acquisition of Mattress Giant, another Texas-based bedding retailer, which ranks No. 11 on the Top 25 list.

Top 15 U.S. Bedding Producers 2013 , Furniture Today's ranking of the Top 15 Bedding Producers ranks companies according to 2012 U.S. wholesale bedding shipments. Returns, as well as shipments to Puerto Rico are excluded. Contract shipments are included in figures. Adjustments, including sales allowances and incentives, are also included and are reported in the notes when available.

Aside from our awards for the Retail Giants of Bedding, this bedding supplement features an eclectic mix of topics. Sleep Accessories in Furniture Stores . The study, just completed, presents the views of almost three dozen furniture retailers around the country, the vast majority of whom have annual sales of more than $2 million. And some big players are on the list of respondents, too; 21% of the furniture respondents had sales last year of $20 million or more.
Furniture Today's 2011 Bedding Distribution Channel Report . Furniture/Today's exclusive 2011 Bedding Distribution Report reveals 2010 bedding market share through seven distribution channels. Figures are based on 2010 retail sales of conventional mattresses and boxsprings, as well as foam bedding, futons, airbeds, adjustable beds and waterbeds.
Bedbugs: New Survey Reveals Women's Bedbug Concerns

Women, bedding's key consumers, are very aware of bedbugs, see the bedbug problem as being a serious one in the country, but are confident that problem can be controlled. Those are some of the key conclusions of a survey of women consumers conducted by Furniture/Today in partnership with Medelia Inc., a business strategy firm headed by Delia Passi. Passi, a speaker at Furniture/Today's recent Bedding Conference, and Furniture/Today posed bedbug questions to a panel of women who shared their thoughts on key bedbug issues. Approximately 250 women answered a variety of questions. This is the first time that Furniture/Today has surveyed an exclusively female audience on bedbug issues.
