Gifts & Decorative Accessories Today's Gift Retailer 2013 , Today's gift retailers have weathered the slow economy and even slower recovery; and are expecting a positive road ahead. A whopping 94% of gift retailers are projecting 2013 sales to be up or about the same as 2012 sales, according to gift retailers responding to Gift & Decorative Accessories’ exclusive Today’s Gift Retailer 2013 survey.
Gifts and Decorative Accessories Trends & Forecasts Report 2013 , While the overall economic outlook being reported by the news media may not be entirely sunny and bright, the outlook in the gift industry remains cautiously upbeat. The majority of gifts and decorative accessories vendors, 94 percent, say they expect sales next year to be the same or better than this year, according to gifts and decorative accessories' exclusive 2013 trends and forecasts survey. Vendors' outlook for 2013 is similar to the optimism they had for 2012, when 96 percent of vendors predicted this year would be better than 2011. However, that is not to say that there are not difficulties to overcome.
Gifts and Decorative Accessories 25 Gifted Retailers 2012 , The gifted retailers of 2012 represent a number of different types of retail shops that make up the universe of gift retailing: resort shops, hospital gift shops, framing and craft galleries, toy stores, stationery stores, fashion boutiques, tea shops and interior design firms, as well as general gift and home decor stores.
Gifts and Decorative Accessories Social Media at Retail , Almost three-fourths of gifts and decorative accessories retailers use social media to promote their stores, according to the 2012 Gifts & Decorative Accessories Social Media at Retail survey. Of the 74% of gift retailers that use social media, 99% use Facebook, 43% have a Twitter account, 34% use LinkedIn and 33% post on Pinterest; but the majority, 90% say Facebook is the most effective.

Forty-three percent of gift and decorative accessory vendors reported in the 2012 Gifts & Decorative Accessories Trends and Forecast Survey that they plan on creating products targeted at Millennials, also known as Generation Y. Not a bad plan given the 2010 Census revealed there are 56 million adult Millennials age 18 to 30. According to comScore, Millennials have a purchasing power of $170 billion.

This year's group of gifted retailers are typical — if one can use that word to describe gift merchants. Selected from around the country, they represent the range in both size and variety of stores that comprise the retail segment of our industry. Most are independently owned and are single store operations; 65 percent are selling in 3,000 square feet of space or less.

Today's gift retailers are bracing for another tough retail climate. Fifty-five percent of stores who responded say total 2011 sales will be down from last year. Another third think they'll be about the same and an optimistic 11% think overall sales will increase this year.
